Crown Placing Procedure:
Decayed or fractured teeth call for extensive restoration by using a cap or a crown. Procedure:
In order to prepare the tooth for a crown its thickness is reduced so that the crown can fit over it. The teeth and gum impression is taken and is sent to a Dental Lab to complete the rest of the crown fabrication procedure. Until the permanent crown is ready, a temporary crown will serve the purpose. It is only during the second sitting that the dentist will remove the temporary crown to cement the permanent crown onto the tooth, this time using dental cements. In certain instances the dentist might go for a trial fit in of the crown. An immediate denture is created prior to the removal of teeth, so that it can be replaced immediately when removing the original teeth. To create immediate dentures, an impression of the mouth is taken before the teeth are removed, so that on taking of the remaining teeth, immediate dentures can be inserted right away.
It is over the new extraction sites that the denture is placed, in order to prevent swelling. Never try removing the denture within 24 hours and shall be removed only by your dentist the next day after receiving your new denture.
